Luso on Bridge Street, is the very first Portuguese Restaurant to open in Manchester, and their menu is inspired not only by the traditional cuisine of Portugal but also by the food of former Portuguese provinces such as Macau, Goa, Brazil, Africa and Japan. The Portuguese explorers introduced vindaloo spices to India, clam chowder to the people of America and Tempura cooking to Japan. Their menu will change regularly to reflect the seasons and availability of ingredients.
Carlos and Jane are the creators of Luso, and as Carlos was born and bred in Portugal, they did not need to think long, as to which cuisine they wanted to inspire or the standards they wished to set. They were delighted to appoint the renown, legendry Chef, David Bright to create the level of culinary cuisine that will impress the most discerning clientele, no matter how high their standards.
David who has an undying passion for food, explains that even the ingredients are all made in house, from the Mayonnaise to the 7 varieties of Butter and he only uses the finest suppliers of Meat, fish and produce that have proven reputations over the last 20 years. David’s signature dishes would be Salt Cod, Caldo Verde, Piri Piri Spring Rolls, Lamb Rump, however, he does stress that every dish, is prepared and cooked to his own personal level of excellence.
Whether you are looking for a light lunch of Tapas, selection of Petiscos or A La Carta for Lunch or Dinner or even Afternoon Tea, Luso will definitely impress you not only with the quality of food, variety of wine, but the relaxed atmosphere and superb ambiance!Check reader reviews for Luso Find Luso on map |

This came as a selection of 3 different breads with 3 small pots of spreads (sardine, goat's cheese & a flavoured butter )The bread was not fresh but the spreads compensated somewhat. Our starters of salt cod & egg on a shredded bed of potatoes were tasty. The main course of chicken piri piri arrived in a tasty sauce. My husband asked for some bread to eat with his main course, declining the accompanying 3 spreads.
It wasn't until we'd left the restaurant that we realised we'd been billed a total of £7.90 for '2 breads'.We are regular visitors to good quality restaurants both in the UK & on frequent travels around the world ( just recently dining at the Michelin star restaurant at the Negresco in Nice )& have to say that we were dismayed by such an inflated charge for bread after being offered it after we'd placed our order.
Why is it that bread & water are not offered as standard in many British restaurants or failing that an explicit charge be included to the bill? Vegetarians - watch out for poor choice. by Claire (rated 6/10) Vegetarians don't bother going here. Online menu promised a few main course options, upon arriving I found the options were gone bar one. So no choice whatsoever. Food was nice, but very very overpriced, side orders (which were necessary a rip off). Delightful Dining by Lise Raper (rated 10/10) My first experience of Portugese cuisine and hospitality and I was definitely not disappointed. Amazing food from starter to dessert. Every meal was a real taste sensation! A perfect atmosphere and excellent customer service to match....Dining at Luso is a real must when visiting Manchester. Fantastic Night by Ann (rated 9/10) The booking was made at short notice for 10 people on a Sat night! We arrived on time as promised and were dealt with pretty quickly. We did have to wait a liitle while for our orders to be taken but then everything flowed with precision. We met a couple form New York the atmosphere was chatty and relaxed-we will be back! Luso is lovely by Greg (rated 10/10) The food at Luso is so good that it should make the chain restaurants in Spinningfields round the corner ashamed of themselves. At last, real originality, real flair and real, honest value. This is , quite simply, one of the best restaurants in town and with any justice they'll be here for many years to come. Fantastic by Anon (rated 10/10) I can't recommend Luso enough. The service and quality you'd expect from somewhere like Stock or Gaucho with a menu full of unusual dishes and a price far less than you'd expect for such a good evening's experience Try Luso, it's brilliant by Mary Kent (rated 9/10) We ate at Luso for my birthday this year and I was really glad we did. The food was lovely and made a great change from the Indian-Chinese-Italian-Thai circle you get locked into in Manchester. I had the assiette of fish, which was gorgeous – best fish I’ve had in the city so far, much better than some of the fish restaurants I’ve been in. Don’t really know Portuguese food that well but I’ll definitely be exploring it again after seeing what Luso has on offer Write your own review for Luso |
