The Millennium Quarter will bring together the historic Cathedral, Chetham's School of Music and Corn Exchange with the new Exchange Square, URBIS centre and the city park.

The Urbis Centre - Manchester's newest visitor attraction and gallery space focusing on the city's history and its place within the development of cities worldwide is just one of the elements of the emerging Millennium Quarter (see plan below).

Other features include the new City Park, a green oasis offering rest and relaxation from the bustling commercial centre.

The trees and greenery around the Cathedral will be extended to sweep down to the River Irwell and the park will be a place to meet and play.

Exchange Square is a major new public space linking the modern shopping core with the city's historic heart around the Cathedral and Chetham's School of Music.

Alongside the Cathedral, at the heart of the medieval core, there will be a new Visitors centre explaining Manchester's historic past.
