Ferguson hanging on to title lifeline

Alex Ferguson has revealed he is confident Manchester United can still overhaul the seven-point deficit and pip Chelsea to the Premiership title.

Both sides won their home games yesterday to leave the Blues' lead unchanged with five games to play.

And the United boss, who masterminded a 2-0 victory over a docile Arsenal at Old Trafford, insists the race is still far from over.

"We need a collapse [from Chelsea] but that can happen," Ferguson said. "It happened to us when we lost three games in a week in 1992 and Chelsea have some difficult games left yet.

"They play Bolton next week. Bolton are still going for Europe and they will be really up for it. Chelsea also have to go to Blackburn and Newcastle on the last day for Alan Shearer's final game."

Ferguson has also taken heart from the fact that Chelsea's run-in is the harder of the two teams' remaining fixtures.

United welcome Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Charlton to Old Trafford before the end of the season, games they should win, but also travel to Spurs and Stamford Bridge.

And this clash with the Blues in London on April 29th could well prove to be the decider, Ferguson added.

"There are a lot of things in our favour but the real decider will be at Stamford Bridge, when we have to win."
