Mice-infested restaurant fined nearly £13,000

A Rusholme restaurant has been fined almost £13,000 after inspectors found mouse-droppings on shelves and equipment.

Manchester city council officers saw mice scurrying through the New Tabak Restaurant on Wilmslow Road during a raid last year.

Mouse droppings were found under fridges and cookers, there was mould in fridges and damaged tiles on the walls and floor.

Some equipment was in such a bad state it could not be cleaned.

In addition, raw and ready-to-eat food were stored next to each other in fridges, which could allow bacteria to spread.

New Tabak Restaurant on Wilmslow Road pleaded guilty to five offences at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Manager Gopal Dangol was allowed to re-open the restaurant in July last year after treating the infestation.

In mitigation, a lawyer representing the restaurant's owners said the business was making a £46,000 loss per year.
